The annual “Suzuki Clean-Up the World” campaign was hosted by MTCC plc in the Maldives on the Saturday, 27th of August 2016 at Villimale’ beach. With the participation of more than 80 staff, the event was carried out alongside “Save the Beach”, a local NGO working for the preservation of beaches and the natural environment of Maldives.
The main aim of this event was to awaken the sense of social responsibility among our staff and to raise awareness among them on issues such as reducing waste and preserving the natural environment. During the event information sessions were also carried out by “Save the Beach” towards the importance of preserving the natural environment.
This is the 2nd consecutive year that MTCC has hosted the “Suzuki Clean Up the World” campaign in the Maldives. The event was carried out as a team challenge by encouraging teams to collect as must trash as they could within an hour to win the challenge. The event was a hit among the staff and was well received by the residents of Villimale’ and the general public. This year, we collected more than 390kg of plastic waste and an estimated 200kg of metal waste.
Suzuki Clean-up the World campaign is a global campaign initiated by Suzuki Corporation, Japan in 2010. Since then, the campaign is being carried out in more than 20 countries around the world every year. Suzuki aims to provide their customers “The Ultimate Marine Experience” by ensuring a clean and healthy marine environment.
